Job Description

  Wardell Armstrong LLP is a successful multi-disciplinary consultancy with 13 offices throughout the UK employing approximately 500 staff. Working together with clients, we deliver solutions to challenging problems in Mining & Minerals, Infrastructure & Energy and Property & Development.The Water Team are involved in a broad range of projects within the UK and internationally. Our UK work is mainly driven by work with our planning and permitting colleagues on a wide range of developments such as housing estates, quarries, landfills and major infrastructure projects.  As well as completing EIA water resources chapters, WFD assessments, landfill HRAs and dewatering projects, we are also involved in a wide variety of niche projects.  Recent projects have included supporting our geotechnical colleagues on groundwater related subsidence issues, providing hydrogeological support on mine stabilisations projects and assessing the source of alkali drainage for a construction site.Overseas, we help mining companies secure funding and safeguard local communities through our work on Feasibility Studies and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments.   A major recent project has included the development of a 3D groundwater flow model for a greenfield gold mine.  Additionally we have produced water chapters for scoping studies for a variety of commodities and geographical locations.The OpportunityThe Water Team is looking to expand the senior technical team to facilitate its continued success and we are looking for an individual capable of operating at Associate Director or Technical Director level to join a new team in Glasgow, mentor junior members and assist in the development of our projects in Scotland.The role will involve technical and financial management of a varied range of water focussed projects and the water elements of multi-disciplinary projects across both the UK and international business.  A good background in inputs to planning applications as well as permit support, particularly within the waste sector, is preferred.   The role involves technical guidance and direction of other team members work, technical and commercial review of tenders as well as delivery of reports.  Day to day work varies and includes proposal writing, reporting, project management, client liaison, business development and team management.  Providing senior support to site works may be necessary on rare occasions.We are very keen to hear from candidates with:

  • A minimum of 8 years relevant post-graduate experience;
  • Experience of delivering water projects on budget and to deadline;
  • Experience of successfully negotiating with environmental regulators;
  • Experience of managing people;
  • Experience of delivering commercially astute water element fee proposals for inter-disciplinary projects for clients;
  • Knowledge of UK water related legislation and guidance;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills;
  • Relevant undergraduate qualification (essential);
  • MSc in Hydrogeology (desirable);
  • Chartered status (desirable);
  • A full UK driving licence.
     

The position is a full-time position although part time applicants will be considered.  We are ideally looking for an individual with over 10 years experience however we welcome other suitable applicants who believe they have the correct experience to successfully operate in the role.We offer:
