Staff Civil/Environmental Engineer

We are currently seeking a motivated and accomplished self-starter and effective team player to serve as a Staff Civil/Environmental Engineer to perform all tasks consisting primarily of independent technical oversight of remediation construction projects with support from the office. This position entails travel to job sites primarily in the City of San Francisco and working outside of the office setting 95% of the time. This is a full-time position reporting to either our Oakland or Walnut Creek, CA offices.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:

  • Be responsible for construction monitoring of earthwork concrete work, and various other components of environmental remediation projects.
  • Assist in identifying technical issues and approaches for evaluation.
  • Assist in identifying technical issues and approaches for evaluation.
  • Identify field conditions that differ from assumptions made in the design and construction documents.
  • Assess whether constructed elements are in conformance with the design intent.
  • Escalate management of change issues, differing field conditions, or non-conforming work with Lead Engineer in the office.
  • Use of various geotechnical and environmental instrumentation and equipment.
  • Perform field tests on soil and rock.
  • Prepare detailed notes and take photographs to document the procedures used and observations made during field explorations programs and/or construction monitoring for use by supervisory or project personnel.
  • Produce daily/weekly field reports including written reports with figures, photographs, and summary tables as required.
  • Coordinate scheduling with contractors and subcontractors.
  • Draft technical sections of project communications and reports.
  • Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans prepared for each project site. 
  • Participate in site safety briefings and audits by both contractors and Haley & Aldrich.
  • Document safety observations on a daily basis (positive observations and concerns).
  • Monitor the execution of field & lab testing activities completed by subcontractors.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Coordinate with internal Haley & Aldrich project team members on a daily basis.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with passing public and project stakeholders visiting the project site.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • 0-2 years of related work experience
  • Must have strong written, verbal and telephone communication skills, particularly the ability to produce accurate and concise field notes.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel and Word capabilities
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites primarily in San Francisco and the office in Oakland.
  • Must possess a strong interest in construction and willingness to work construction hours.
  • OSHA 40-hr. HAZWOPER training preferred but not required.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted.

Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions.
