GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver hydrogeological, geotechnical and environmental design/engineering solutions for our clients in the Ontario Market.The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for an Environmental Project Manager to join our existing technical team working on projects across Ontario and expand our environmental and hydrogeological engineering services. To provide flexibility, this opportunity can be physically based out of Kitchener, Markham, Barrie or remotely. GEI’s earth sciences practice in Ontario is predominantly based out of Barrie and Markham, Ontario, and an expectation would be to be present for 1 to 2 days per week in the Markham or Barrie branch office to promote in-person collaboration with the team.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and execute proposals and subsequent scope of work, including oversight and management of all phases of field activities and co-ordination of reports with office team and clients.
  • Organize and conduct drilling for Geotechnical, Hydrogeologic and Environmental Investigations.
  • Prepare, execute, and supervise Excess Soil Management investigations and ensure compliance with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations (O.Reg. 406/19).
  • Phase I Due Diligence and Phase One Record of Site Conditions (RSC) Environmental Site Assessments are written in compliance with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations.
  • Phase II and Phase Two Record of Site Conditions (RSC) Environmental Site Assessments are written in compliance with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations.
  • Remediation reports are written in compliance with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations.
  • Environmental Investigations are completed including soil and groundwater sampling per Ontario regulations 153/04, test pits, drilling, sub-slab vapour testing and passive/active air sampling.
  • Ongoing training and co-ordination of co-workers with respect to procedures and techniques for all field activities.
  • Actively pursuing QA/QC procedures and guidelines with office team to improve project development and delivery timelines.
  • Promote health and safety in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to spend time in the field, depending on experience level/project specifics.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle.
  • College degree in hydrogeological, environmental or related field.
  • Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation considered an asset.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of hydrogeological & environmental experience, at least four (4) in Southern Ontario.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant Ontario Regulations (e.g. O. Reg. 153/04, O. Reg. 406/19, O. Reg. 407/19, O. Reg. 387/04, etc.), Conservation Authority and Municipal guidelines, etc.
  • Understanding of industry standard practices and processes.
  • Experience with Excess Soil Management (O.Reg. 406/19), soil / groundwater chemical sampling and analysis, soil management plans, contaminants of concern, and environmental site assessments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, MS Office, MS Project, and other computer applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle.
