GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking a Senior Civil/Water Resources Engineer to support our Civil Site and Water Resources Team in the Great Lakes Region. GZA employees have direct career paths and access to Senior Leadership, experienced mentors, and company ownership.As a Senior Level Civil/Water Resources Engineer, you will manage projects and staff engineers, and work on a wide variety of exciting projects in our Design with Nature (DWN) Studio. GZA’s DWN Studio is a place where planners, engineers, biologists, construction managers, and professionals come together to create innovated design solutions for our clients utilizing natural and nature-based features (NNBFs) in site design. These projects may include: civil site development; NNBFs; green infrastructure; land and water resource development; stream and streambank restoration; wetland and buffer restoration; hydraulic and hydrologic modeling; drainage and stormwater studies; phytoremediation; biotechnologies; constructed treatment wetlands; and stormwater management permitting. You will be an integral part of our Oak Brook, IL Water Resources and DWN Studio teams, leading projects and mentoring staff to create nature-based solutions that meet our client’s needs.This position can be located out of any of our GZA office locations with occasional travel to project sites nationwide.
Key Duties: 

  • Work closely with GZA staff companywide in our DWN Studio.
  • Manage projects and mentor staff engineers in the preparation of site development, stormwater, and restoration design documents.
  • Assist with the technical execution of projects amongst a team of dedicated project managers and principals.
  • Conduct and oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering design and construction plans, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, and bid documents.
  • Assist in stormwater management permitting.
  • Assist in business development and proposal efforts.
  • Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required. Master of Science in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering preferred. Associated earth sciences related to nature-based solutions a plus.
  • Background or strong academic training in civil site design, surface water hydrology, open channel hydraulics, watershed management, and stormwater permitting.
  • PE certification required.
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a professional attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise letters, memoranda, technical reports, proposals, and figures.
  • Strong computer skills including a solid foundation in MS Office applications.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil3D, ProjectWise, ArcGIS, and MicroStation experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software preferred, such as: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FLO-2D, HydroCAD, StormCAD, CulvertMaster, and SWMM.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.

The base salary for this position may range between $95,000 and $135,000. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including location, bonus eligibility, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.GZA is an employee-owned multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm with a history of 60 years of providing innovative engineering solutions to improve the natural and built environment.
