With more than 600 employees in eight office locations throughout the United States, SGH’s industry-leading teams constantly seek to advance the meaning of what’s possible.We want someone passionate about engineering and problem solvingThe ideal candidate will provide consulting services to inspect, evaluate, analyze, and design a variety of marine and waterfront structures, facilities, and infrastructure. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams of structural, geotechnical, mechanical, fire, and civil engineers working with SGH. You will be expected to have a strong technical background and problem-solving mindset to deliver creative solutions.What You’ll Be DoingWe are seeking Marine/Waterfront Civil/Structural Engineers to join our Houston, TX office. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing waterfront and marine engineering practice. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Inspect, evaluate, analyze, and design a variety of marine, waterfront, port, and harbor structures, facilities, and infrastructure.
  • Support waterfront stabilization and resiliency projects that involve wind, wave, current, tide, flood, sea level rise, mooring, berthing, and seismic loads.
  • Prepare calculations for project components that may include concrete, steel, aluminum, composite, and timber elements.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Provide construction administration and field observation.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and managing junior staff and interns.
  • Assist in proposal development and business development efforts.

What You’ll Need

  • M.S. degree in Civil, Structural, Coastal, or Ocean Engineering required. 
  • 4+ years of experience in waterfront/marine/port/ocean engineering;  Experience with ASCE MOP 130, ASCE 61, PIANC Guidelines is a plus.
  • Registered professional engineer in the United States, or ability to obtain within 12 months of joining SGH
  • Communication skills: excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills; Ability to convey information to internal and external clients clearly.
  • Problem-solving ability: capability to solve minor or complex problems using data, logic, and judgment. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel for client meetings and business development, including some overnight travel.
