Job Description

  Geosyntec is seeking an experienced Senior CAD/Drafting Technician (AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit) to support project needs in our national Geostructural and Construction Engineering Branch out of our Oakbrook/Chicago, Illinois office. The selected candidate will perform computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of structural, geotechnical, and civil engineering design projects. We are seeking a motivated individual who can develop plan and elevation layouts, steel connection details, and concrete reinforcement details for structural engineering projects, including steel frame designs, crane layouts, support of excavation (SOE), deep foundations, building retrofits, demolition, and phased construction sequences.  Projects may also include the design of grading and civil systems plus opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction.Our clients ask us to address their new ventures and most challenging problems involving the environment, natural resources, and civil infrastructure.   • Drafting, editing, and finalizing design plans and details using appropriate and efficient methods and adhering to Geosyntec drafting standards;
  • Understanding and visualizing overall structural and geostructural engineering elements, such as connection detailing, and translating abstract concepts into design drawings;
  • Analyzing sketches, notes, and other input material to determine best approach to complete a drawing set;
  • Assisting with proposal development tasks including estimating level of effort for CADD-related work; and assisting in the development of file management standards; and
  • Working collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality.

  • Associate’s degree in Drafting from accredited university. (required)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience performing related CADD design work in structural, mechanical, or construction engineering, or architecture; or equivalent combination education, training, and experience. (required)
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D (release 2018 or above). (required)
  • Proficiency in VDC or BIM (Revit, Rhino, etc.). (preferred)
  • Experience developing and working with structural details, building frames, concrete reinforcement and steel connection detailing. (required)
  • Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills. (required)
  • The ability to visualize 2D sketches into 3D space and create detailed section views for construction documents.
  • Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D certification (or the ability to become certified within one year of hire date). (preferred)
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel. (required)
