I.  Job Summary

The Salesforce Marketing Cloud Architect position provides a balance between system administration, development, and innovation, along with production work – it’s perfect for those who like to both plan/lead and execute! You will govern the use of the Salesforce Marketing Cloud platform and centralize administration to ensure digital best practices are followed and enable features and functionalities to support efforts around digital marketing. You must partner with the Marketing team to understand business processes to help design and develop enhancements, capabilities, and assist with process automation. This role will also oversee documentation for technical design and support planning that aligns with industry best practices and governance measures. You will be responsible for leading and executing complex marketing automation campaigns in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, using Content Builder, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Mobile Studio, CloudPages, and beyond.


II.  Duties and Responsibilities own oversight of Salesforce Marketing Cloud platform, including but not limited to: designing solutions to drive business goals with efficiency, ensuring quality and consistency across the platforms, defining requirements, and leading platform gap-analysis, understanding and managing technical debt, ensuring compliance and security.

  • Stay current on platform releases regarding new features and product roadmaps. Identify and facilitate employment of those that will improve digital effectiveness.

  • Understand and connect business goals and challenges with the overall design of the various solutions

  • Identify and provide input into proper marketing automation solutions that respect the integrity of existing internal data processes. Work with various business and technology leaders at all levels of the firm to understand technical requirements, make recommendations, and drive (project manage) execution.

  • Oversee documentation for technical design and support planning that aligns with industry best practices and governance measures

  • Educate, train, influence, and drive consistent adoption of platform and industry best practices, serve as expert on WM’s Salesforce Center of Excellence standards

  • Provide project management support for platform migration and campaign development

  • Work with other WM’s salesforce team members to liaise with Salesforce Marketing Cloud account team

  • Interfaces with data teams to maintain flows, monitor health of critical automations – (SQL)

  • Provides guidance and support on production work where needed

  • Provides governance for subscriber permissions, automations/disposition files

  • Execution of complex marketing automation campaigns in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, using Content Builder, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Mobile Studio, CloudPages, and beyond.

III.  Supervisory Responsibilities

May coach and mentor less-experienced analysts and act as team leader on systems projects.


IV.  Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.


  1. Education and Experience


Education: Required Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Business, Information Systems, or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant experience.


Experience: Seven (7) years of previous experience in digital marketing, marketing strategy, marketing operations and/or marketing/advertising technology within a leading brand, digital agency, or strategy consulting firm including 4+ years of Marketing Cloud experience.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required


  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience of SFMC from execution of programs, to systems design, database management and administration perspectives.

  • Up to date with the latest trends and best practices in marketing automation

  • Ability to work closely with the various specialists, especially cross-functional teams and external vendors involved with the development and execution of digital marketing

  • Platform implementation and onboarding experience

  • Excellent attention to detail, strong strategic thinking, creative problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Defining best practices and educating internal partners on those best practices for the use of the systems.

  • Strong self-starter who is a team player and can work independently.

  • Managing operational requests and assisting in the escalated triage of support issues, working with diverse user groups

  • Database management/SQL experience

  • Working knowledge of AMPscript, HTML, and CSS.

  • Project Management skills

  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud Consultant and/or Administrator certified preferred


Advanced knowledge or skills in one or more of the following required:

  • Present, communicate and articulate effectively to all levels of the organization (including technical and non-technical audiences, Senior Leadership, VPs and C-level executives).

  • Architecting and designing frameworks.

  • Development methodology.

  • Completing design artifacts using UML.

  • Project management (including ability to lead a project team) and organizational skills.

  • Vendor interactions skills; Provide input to contract negotiations.

  • Ability to resolve interpersonal and technical conflicts.

  • Knowledge and understanding of prototyping and methods of implementation.

  • Ability to provide input to business processes and translate them into technical requirements.
