Job Description

  Draper Aden Associates is currently seeking a Funding Specialist to assist in serving our growing municipal client base throughout Virginia.  The Funding Specialist will engage public sector clients and research, write, and administer grants necessary for infrastructure (stormwater, potable water, sanitary sewer, streets, etc.), water quality and other environmental initiatives, community/economic development, brownfields, historic preservation, and parks and recreation.  If you enjoy the challenge of securing funding, while being part of a high energy team that sees a project to completion, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Helps to refine potential projects needing funding
  • Completes / assists with funding applications on behalf of clients
  • Coordinates with funding agencies
  • Develops and administers funding agency contract(s)
  • Assists with and facilitates public engagement and “town hall” style meetings
  • Requests and manages program funds in compliance with funding program guidelines
  • Manages bid/contract funding requirements
  • Assembles detailed labor compliance documentation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:The requirements listed below are representative of the essential knowledge, skills, and/or ability of the successful candidate. 

  • Previous experience with funding administration and/or grant preparation for the following programs:  FEMA Public Assistance, Construction Grants and Loans, Rural Development, CWSRF, Safe Routes to School, CDBG, U.S. EPA Brownfields, Virginia Brownfields Assistance Fund, VRA, VDH DWSRLF, USRDA, and GO Virginia
  • Experience with client, funding agency, elected officials, and public communications, including presentation skills
  • Understanding of municipal finance models
  • Ability to develop relationships and work with a large and diverse team of professionals
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to perform the essential job functions to meet internal and external client expectations
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas so others will understand, including preparation and review of reports, agendas, and policies   
  • Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing
  • Bachelor of Science/Arts in Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Planning, Engineering, Communications, English or closely related field preferred
