We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Practice Leader with dams and levees experience. The selected candidate (engineer or geologist) will have the unique opportunity to launch a new Geosyntec-Kentucky office from the ground up.You must have an entrepreneurial attitude and enthusiasm for supporting business development and technical efforts to expand Geosyntec’s market share. This position supports the creation and implementation of new strategies by providing strategic solutions to our clients’ most complex problems. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. Some of the task-level or project management responsibilities you will be asked to do include:

  • Task and project management, including planning and implementation, designing, trouble shooting and optimization;
  • Managing remediation engineering projects including budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Business development; including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan;
  • Managing and mentoring junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Work plan development, data evaluation, process design, and report writing;
  • Data analysis, including developing maps and figures using GIS/Environmental Visualization;
  • Software (EVS) applications, CADD, and database management working with our information management specialists;
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Reviewing and managing written document production; and

Preparing for and participating in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties.Here are some other things you should know about a typical practitioner position with Geosyntec:

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training, and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.  
  • Overnight travel will also be necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, civil engineering, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, or applicable related degree. (required)
  • Advanced degree. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E., P.G.). (required)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 10 years of technical leadership experience in civil-geotechnical engineering, civil and infrastructure projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) 
  • 8+ years of experience focusing on growing and developing a dam and levee client base. (required) 
  • Experience managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management. (required) 
  • Experience with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) certification process. (required) 
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to travel. (required) 
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
