Job Description

SummaryThe Senior CAD Drafter is responsible for performing high level drafting services using CAD software and Civil3D for a variety of civil engineering, permitting, and survey related tasks. The person in this position is expected to exercise a strong work ethic, organizational skills, and design judgment. A Senior CAD Drafter should demonstrate advanced level drafting proficiency and be able to quickly learn and apply new drafting skills. A successful draft-person is expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism and seek guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Complete drafting assignments and projects in AutoCAD and Civil3D with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency with universal drafting standards and best practices
  • Learn and apply company’s drafting standards and best practices
  • Learn and apply alternative drafting standards as required by clients
  • Consistently demonstrate high level of efficiency and accuracy when completing all types of drafting tasks.
  • Create sheets and setup projects, according to standards, from scratch for multiple technical divisions.
  • Work efficiently to meet deadlines and perform tasks within a given amount of time, while juggling multiple project assignments.
  • Help mentor and train less experienced members of the team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education and/or Experience      This position requires the candidate to have an Associates’ (2-year) degree in computer-aided drafting, or a related field.  A minimum of 6 years of professional drafting experience is required. Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMust have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts of geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistical analysis.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and angular relationships to practical solutions.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  •  Advanced level CAD proficiency using AutoCAD
  • Ability to quickly learn new CAD platforms to advanced level proficiency
  • Accurately interpret markups and efficiently incorporate them into drawings
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Consistently produce drafting output in conformance with DOWL and other required drafting standards
  • Ability to back check work, and the work of others to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Identify and work in conjunction with designers to resolve potential conflicts and design issues
  • Demonstrate good judgment in creativity and latitude on CAD assignments
  • Ability to clearly teach and explain drafting skills, standards and techniques to other members of the team
  • Ability to prioritize special projects and daily workload to ensure that all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
