Job Description

GSI is seeking experienced candidates for a full-time Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician position in our Wichita/Salina, KS and Grand Island, NE offices. The successful candidate will have the desire and ability to work outdoors in all climates and travel regionally. Must have strong technical skills and the ability to take accurate and complete field and laboratory notes. Must be self-motivated and able to follow directions and work successfully with clients and all levels of staff.

Responsibilities Include:

Perform field and laboratory testing on construction materials that include but are not limited to: soil, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, structural steel connections, bituminous paving materials, and sprayed fire resistive materials.

Perform field tests on Portland cement concrete: sample freshly mixed concrete, measure temperature, slump, and air content, fabricate compressive or flexural strength test specimens,

and transport test specimens to the laboratory.

Perform field tests on soil and aggregate: obtain representative samples for laboratory analysis, perform nuclear moisture and density testing, observe proof-rolling, and perform soil bearing

capacity verifications.

Perform field tests on masonry: fabricate mortar cubes and grout prisms.

Observe reinforcing steel for bar size, spacing, overlaps

Perform laboratory testing on Portland cement concrete: specimen check-in and curing, test specimens for compressive strength and flexural strength.

Maintain clean jobsite and laboratory work areas, maintain clean vehicle.

Maintain technically accurate and detailed field and laboratory testing reports.

Follow health and safety protocol in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and/or project specific requirements.

Ensure compliance with testing methods and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Successfully complete Radiation Safety Training within two weeks of employment.

Obtain American Concrete Institute Grade I Field Testing Technician Certification within 6 months of employment.

Ability to read and comprehend construction plans and specifications.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to pass pre-employment drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications:

American Concrete Institute Grade I Field Testing Technician Certification.

Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology
